Your Options For New Year's

Saturday December 27, 2008
Trying to figure out what to do for New Year's? There's no need to stay in and watch the ball drop on television! Read about three of the best events happening the night of December 31.

First Night Austin
The city's official New Year's celebration will take place all across the city. Live music, demonstrations, and arts performances can be found at Auditorium Shores, Cesar Chavez, at City Hall, on South Congress, and more. At midnight, fireworks will be launched over Lady Bird Lake. The event is alcohol-free.

New Year's at Alamo Drafthouse
The downtown location, The Ritz, will be screening the screwball comedy "The Thin Man" along with a multi-course meal, a countdown to midnight, and a champagne toast.

The Austinist New Year's Eve Party
The everything-Austin website is hosting a party at Mohawk's, which will feature live music and Indieroke (indie karaoke).

If none of these events strike your fancy, many other venues will be hosting New Year's Eve bashes, such as Flamingo Cantina, The Parish, and Emo's.

The Parish IS a great place for NYE tonight! They’re having Grupo Fantasma playing, and the price of a ticket, INCLUDING all food / drinks is just $100 - Ridiculous considering I’d spend that on a couple of rounds for friends without the entertainment!
