Ana Cantu has lived in five different Austin neighborhoods in the nine years she’s called the city home. She started exploring Austin on foot and by bus when she first arrived as a car-less college freshman and has never really stopped (though she readily admits that having a car makes it much easier).
Experience:
Ana is a native Texan and attended the University of Texas, where she served as the news director of KVRX-FM and had a internship at the Austin American-Statesman during her senior year.
After graduation, she worked as an editor and staff writer for Newsday in New York and the Los Angeles Times, but within a few years, Austin lured her back to Central Texas. She currently works as the Austin American-Statesman's opinion editor and also serves as a Web producer and occasional columnist.
Education:
Ana graduated with honors from the University of Texas and earned degrees in journalism and linguistics.

I grew up on the Texas border, and way back around the turn of the century, I moved to Austin for college. After years of small-town life, I loved that Austin had the perfect mix of big city excitement and laidback lifestyle. And how many cities wear their weirdness as a badge of honor? Only Austin. The city’s world-famous music scene, beautiful natural setting and strong economy combine to make Austin one of the best places to live in the entire United States. Not that I’m biased or anything.
