Direct Routes and Sightseeing Stops

Driving from Dallas/Fort Worth to Austin is as simple as getting on Interstate 35E in Dallas or Interstate 35W in Ft. Worth and driving south. 35E and 35W merge into Interstate 35 before reaching Hillsboro. Approximate driving time is 3.5 hours if you make no detours. Use one of the online map services (sidebar) to map out a precise door-to-door route.

Noteworthy Central Texas Stops Along the Way

  • Waco - It's home to Baylor University, the Dr. Pepper Museum, the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum. And it's not too far from President Bush's Crawford ranch.

  • Temple/Killeen - Take a tour of Fort Hood - the largest military installation in the free world. You can also stop by the Bell County Expo Center or the Railroad & Heritage Museum as you pass through the area.

  • Georgetown - Walk or drive through the Historic District on a self-guided tour and stop by the Georgetown Firefighters Museum.

  • Round Rock - You're almost in Austin when you get here. It's the home of Dell Computers and Round Rock Express baseball.
