There's no mistaking that patchwork dome across from Auditorum Shores and Town Lake. Named for Lester E. Palmer, former City Council Member and later Mayor of Austin, the Auditorium has played host to celebrities such as Elvis Presley and Prince Charles since its grand opening in 1959.

Replaced by the new Lester E. Palmer Events Center, Palmer Auditorium will undergo renovation, emerging as the R. and Teresa Lozano Long Center for the Performing Arts in 2004. And yes, the patchwork will go.
