Antenna Ball Gallery
for when you're seriously bored...

While Jack in the Box® restaurants may not have invented antenna toppers, they certainly re-popularized the fad. There was a time not so long ago that antenna balls were proliferating as rapidly as AOL disks. Sadly all good things must come to an end. Or at least become less prevalent. Here in Austin the well-dressed antenna is not so easy to find.

In my quest for photos for this little gallery it was necessary to traverse many a mile of parking lot hoping to spot a one-eyed Jack or catch a cheery smiley face. And let me tell you, walking or driving through parking lots snapping pictures of antenna balls will get you some pretty strange looks from those passing by. For that reason, my kids and I aimed for distant lots and we made it a policy never to take pictures of balls on occupied cars — missing many a unique or interesting specimen. We weren't sure if the driver would give us time to explain before hauling out the baseball bat.

a brand new JackThere aren't too many fresh-faced antenna balls (like this one) out there either. The elements aren't too kind to Jack and his friends.

The following collection is a work-in-progress. I know there are many more antenna balls out there just waiting for their 15 seconds of fame and a chance to grace the walls of our gallery.

Your contributions to the gallery are welcome too. Snap a photo of your antenna topper and post it to the Antenna Ball thread in the forum (and vote in the poll). I'll grab it from there and place it (with due credit) in a place of honor in our Antenna Ball Gallery. It doesn't matter if it's a common or unusual specimen, all antenna ornaments are welcome.

So, without further ado, let's play ball.
