As wonderful as it is in Austin, sometimes you just want to get away for a few hours or all day. There are several destinations outside Austin and Travis County for shopping, sightseeing, and indoor or outdoor recreation. Sometimes you might want to stay overnight to see it all but most trips can be accomplished in a single day.
Barsana Dham
Although it has an Austin address, this Hindu temple in the Hill Country is down south in Hays County. Make a day of touring the temple and picking your own peaches in the nearby Barsana Orchards.
Buda
You could head out to Buda in Hays County at any time, but former Guide Judy Litt made a special trip for some Christmas shopping.
Bush's Crawford Ranch
You can't really drop in on the President but you could drive up to Crawford one day just to say you've been there. Who knows, you might catch a glimpse of the President or First Lady or at least some secret service folks.
Hill Country Getaway
A stay at Canyon of the Eagles Lodge and a Vanishing Texas River Cruise were part of this Hill Country Getaway. Former Guide Judy Litt describes this overnight trip while staying fairly close to home.
Kerrville
Former Guide Judy Litt went to Kerrville for a little antique shopping. She describes shops, lodging, and some sidetrips to area parks.
Lago Vista Clubs & Resorts
On the shore of Lake Travis, this might be a good place for a golfer's getaway says former Guide Judy Litt.
