You've probably felt like yelling at some rude or careless driver on Austin streets telling them to just get off the road. I know I have. But the kind of off-road driving I'm talking about here is intentional.
Whether your interests run to gas-powered or pedal-powered recreation Austin has trails, special events, and organizations to help you get off the road to fun and relaxation. Here are three clubs and in-town trail locations to get you started.
4 Wheelers
According to their Web site, the Austin Four Wheelers club is open to drivers "of all levels of experience from 'no way am I driving this thing there' to 'meet you at the top, pal'." On the site you'll find trail reports, a calendar of events, and of course meeting information.

Mountain Bikes
Prefer to supply your own power to the pedal? Austin Ridge Riders says it is "Austin's largest and most active mountain bike club." They have trail riding outings for adults and kids. At the site get membership info, upcoming events, trail ratings, race info, and more mountain biking news.
Where to ride in town: City Parks
The motorcycle track at Emma Long City Park is also availble to mountain bikers; The Greenbelt and Bull Creek/Forest Ridge areas have hike & bike trails.
Are you an off-road fan? Know of other clubs around town? Tell us about them!
