This year's South by Southwest festival and conference was bigger than ever. Some thought it would be smaller due to the struggling economy, but the film, music and interactive components brought people from all over the world to Austin. There were hundreds of concerts, dozens of film screenings and countless interactive events. In the music part of the festival, there were surprise performances by Metallica, Kanye West and Jane's Addiction. The festival brought more recognition to Austin, but also did demonstrate the city's need for a better public transportation system. Nonetheless, the festival was a huge success and likely will be for the years to come. Enjoy the following images of several moments from Austin's SXSW 2009.
