New Year's Eve is a very festive time in Austin. Learn about the various activities and events taking place to ring in the new year, including a major fireworks show in downtown Austin.
First Night Austin is the city’s main New Year’s Eve event. It is family-friendly and alcohol free. General attendance is free, though parking and the food court cost money. There will be a family festival at Auditorium Shores from 4-6 p.m. The grand procession is from 6-8 p.m. and goes along Congress Avenue, Cesar Chavez, and the 1st Street bridge. The illumination of Auditorium Shores takes place from 8-8:30 p.m. You can watch the Waterlight Parade on the lake at 9 p.m., and the First Night Run begins at 10 p.m. Event programming begins at 11 p.m., and then fireworks go off at midnight. Throughout the evening there will be musicians and artists performing inside City Hall and at Auditorium Shores.
The Long First Night is a great way to enjoy First Night Austin in comfort and to have a great view of the festivities. Your ticket will give you a great view of the night’s events and fireworks. You will also be able to enjoy live bands and DJs at The Long Center. There will be an international food station, drink stations, and family-friendly entertainment. Austin's Seaholm Power Plant was used as a live music venue for the first time ever in October as the home to an after-party for the Austin City Limits music festival
. It is being used once again on New Year's Eve for a party sponsored by Rare magazine, with several live bands playing throughout the night. Tickets also include hors d’oeuvres and sweets from some of Austin’s restaurants, plus complimentary champagne. There will be a cash bar, lounges, dancing, an LED video board for the countdown, and a view of the downtown fireworks. The event begins at 9 p.m. and ends at 3 a.m. Early bird tickets are $79, and the price will go up quickly. It is expected the event will sell out, so buy your ticket soon.
4. Party at Stephen F’s Bar and Terrace

6. Once in a Blue Moon: NYE
This 10-hour party is being hyped as the largest New Years electronic dance event celebration in Texas history. Held at the Travis County Expo Center, the event will feature three dancing areas and over 40 DJs and performers. There will also be a Tribal Fair with full body painting, break dancers, a beer and wine garden until 2 a.m., food stands, and more. Stubbb's Bar-B-Q, a tasty restaurant and music venue in downtown Austin, is hosting a New Year's Eve Bash. Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears will be performing, along with Hard Proof Afrobeat. The purchase of the $32 ticket gives guests access to a BBQ buffet and a champagne toast. Doors open at 9 p.m.
This private entertainment industry party at Karma Lounge is for filmmakers, actors, models, musicians, artists, video-game professionals, and others in the industry. It is also a fundraiser for "Wolfpack on the Streets," an upcoming documentary about homelessness, and a Warmdrive for the homeless, so bring warm items. From 6-7:30 p.m. there will be light music and free Jello shots. There is a happy hour from 7:30-9:30p.m., and from then until midnight, expect a series of live performers. At midnight, enjoy a free champagne toast. You will find a smoking section with free hookah all night long, plus pool tables for some friendly competition. There will be drink specials at the bar all night long and door prizes for some lucky winners. Downtown Austin's Cedar Door Bar and Grill is hosting a big New Year's Eve party this year. Come listen to DJs spin all night long as you ring in the new year. The festivities begin at 6 p.m. and end at 2 a.m. If you want to eat, reservations range from $20 to $100 depending on how large your group is. A reservation includes a bottle of champagne to be used for the midnight toast, an appetizer, and a party kit complete with horns and hats.
