It's not unusual to see Matthew McConaughey around Austin. He was born in Uvalde, Texas, in 1969. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He has been a die-hard Longhorn football fan ever since; he is often spotted at the games either in the skyboxes or on the sidelines. After appearing in some television commercials, McConaughey got his real acting start when Austin director Richard Linklater cast him in "Dazed and Confused," which was filmed primarily in Austin. He has since starred in a movies such as "A Time to Kill," "Amistad," "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" and "We are Marshall." McConaughey has a home in Austin and is good pals with pro cyclist Lance Armstrong, and they are sometimes spotted around town together.
