The Bottom Line

Packed full of frights and tons of fun. It's one of those amusement park fun houses gone all creepy. Be prepared to duck, crawl, climb, balance, push, and pull your way through the maze of wacky rooms. This is the "must see" one of the two House of Torment attractions.

Spoiler Alert: Don't read the review below the bullet points if you want the specific kinds of frightful fun to expect in Illusion Manor to remain a surprise.
Pros
  • Not your typical haunted house attraction.
  • Loads of fun, even before you encounter the monsters.
  • Some neat optical illusions.
Cons
  • (for some folks) You can't just walk through it.
  • Must be very careful to watch your head and watch your step.

Guide Review - Illusion Manor at the House of Torment

Spoiler Alert: Don't read any further if you want the specific kinds of frightful fun to expect in Illusion Manor to remain a surprise.

Illusion Manor is not your typical walk through narrow halls and rooms full of gruesome decor. The premise is that this is some kind of amusement park fun house gone terribly wrong. What really makes it different from other Halloween Haunted Houses are the special rooms and passages which include:

  • A bridge through a spinning tunnel. An optical illusion? Perhaps. But I swear that bridge was swaying!

  • Dark hallways where you have to get down on your hands and knees (or at least crouch down very low).

  • A ball pit -- yes, just like the little kids get to enjoy at Chuck E. Cheese or other kiddie places. Only this one is dark and you're never quite sure who or what is lurking in the pit.

  • A tilted room. Unless you have extremely good balance you'll find you'll need to use the railing to pull yourself through this room. Oh, and of course you'll have to avoid the monsters.

  • The birth canal. OK, maybe that's not what they call it but it's the best description I can think of. It's sort of like trying to squeeze through a pair of airbags. You'll find something similar in at least one other haunted house this year but there seems to be more of it in Illusion Manor.

  • There's also a possibility of getting wet although that didn't happen to anyone in our party. Just be prepared.
That's not all, but hopefully it's enough to whet your appetite.

Do not attempt Illusion Manor if you're not prepared to get on your hands and knees, if you have serious problems with enclosed spaces or equilibrium problems. But if you think you can handle it, I highly recommend Illusion Manor.
