House of Torment

About.com Rating four out of Five

By Jacci Howard Bear, About.com

The Bottom Line

Although the outside of the house looks much like previous years, there are new twists to an old favorite. Take a seat and watch a short movie clip then walk -- even if you want to run -- through a series of creepy rooms that feature not only sights and sounds to make you jump but also smells to freak you out.
Pros
  • Excellent creepy, gross sets.
  • Special effects for almost all the senses.
  • Centrally located, near Highland Mall
Cons
  • Some scenes may be too intense for those with weak stomachs.

Guide Review - House of Torment

Even though I told myself I was going take more time to appreciate the great (though gruesome) scenery, I found myself caught up in the moment and rushing to get away from the house inhabitants. The House of Torment continues to excite, thrill, gross out, creep out, and scare the britches off visitors again this year with its gruesome sets and threatening monsters.

They've switched up the inside so long time return visitors to the House of Torment will discover much that's new, different, confusing, and awesome. From the moment you sit down to listen the rules of the house, you're on edge. And the experience continues with shadowy passages, thumps, bangs, strobing lights, things that come out of unseen doorways, something that scampers across the walls, and smells. There are nauseating smells to go with some of those gag-inducing scenes.

There is obviously a lot of attention to detail that goes into to creating the House of Torment experience. It's heavy on the gross-out factor with plenty of monsters in the dark.

Due in part to its central location, heavy publicity, and long-time existence, the lines are often quite long to buy tickets and to enter the attraction. Be prepared to wait.
