Vicious T. Mangle's Slaughter Circus and Freakshow at the Mansion of Terror

About.com Rating five out of Five

By Jacci Howard Bear, About.com

The Bottom Line

Excellent scare factor at the Mansion of Terror: Slaughter Circus and Freakshow. Lots of ghouls coming at you in the darkness, confusing twists and turns, unexpected noises, things that pop out of walls and other places, and it seemed much longer than the 10 minutes or so it took to scurry through.
Pros
  • Almost mazelike twists and turns
  • Great sets without too much cheesy gore
  • Good, creepy atmosphere even while waiting in line
Cons
  • A few more really dark passages would add to the tension

Guide Review - Vicious T. Mangle's Slaughter Circus and Freakshow at the Mansion of Terror

Replacing 2006's Asylum of Darkness at the Mansion of Terror, the Slaughter Circus and Freakshow is an almost non-stop journey through a maze of rooms and narrow passages filled with crazy clowns and other maniacal creatures.

It was a thrill-filled, scream-filled, dark and crazy rush to the exit on our first journey through. Going through a second time the next weekend I was at first disappointed that it didn't seem near as dark -- I could see quite well. But that disappointment lasted for only a few moments. Actually being able to see better the second time in no way detracted from the fun. In fact, it was as if I was in a totally different attraction. I saw scenes and ghouls that either weren't there the first time or I hadn't noticed in the rush to get past the other monsters that chased, jumped out, and blocked our way through the Slaughter Circus (I keep writing slaughterhouse -- for good reason). Either way, it was an entertaining attraction.

Kudos to the actors and the set builders for creating this more or less traditional sort of creepshow that still managed to deliver far more than the traditional gory sets and monsters in the dark experience.

Seriously afraid of clowns? You might not want to try this one but if you can handle the frights and only want to do one of the two Mansion of Terror attractions -- Vicious T. Mangle's Slaughter Circus and Freakshow is the one.
