"Anderson Mill Road"

By Jacci Howard Bear, About.com

Definition: Thomas Anderson came to Texas in the late 1850's and settled near Austin making his home on Cypress Creek in an area later known as Volente. Anderson built a gunpowder mill which served the Confederate Army. After the Civil War ended the mill was converted to a grist mill for grinding corn. Later a cotton gin was added. The mill closed later when automation made the old-fashioned water-powered operation obsolete. Thomas Anderson died in 1894. Anderson Mill Road was named in honor of Thomas Anderson and his mill.

Examples: Anderson Mill Road runs east-west in far north Austin, intersecting Pond Springs Road at Old U.S. 183, not to be confused with Anderson Lane, further south.
