Definition: In 1837 William Barton moved from his property in Bastrop County to a new home on the Colorado River near the springs that would later bear his name. Barton Springs was one of many settlements along the Colorado River that would later become part of Austin. Barton Springs Road runs east-west through the middle of Zilker Park south of Town Lake.
Barton Creek and the Barton Springs Pool are on the south side of Barton Springs Road.
The Zilker Park Christmas tree, the playscape, and the train station for the Zephyr are on the south side of Barton Springs Road while the annual Trail of Lights and the Kite Festival take place on the north side of Barton Springs Road.
Examples: William "Uncle Billy" Barton is immortailized not only in the name of Barton Springs but also Barton Creek , of which Barton Springs is a part of, and the surrounding Barton Hills.
