Texas Relays

Austin International Poetry Festival

What: The event, billed as the world's largest non-juried poetry festival, includes four days of readings, workshops and open mics.
SafePlace Field Day

Where: Austin High School, 1715 W. Cesar Chavez
What: The free event featuring the Ridiculous Relays aims to create awareness about healthy relationships and encourage attendees to commit to ending violence in our community.
Relay for Life
When: April 9
Where: Main Mall, University of Texas campus
What: At the American Cancer Society's 24-hour relay, teams will take turns walking or running to celebrate the lives of those with cancer and to remember those who have been lost. $10 registration fee.
Keep Austin Beautiful Clean Sweep
When: April 9
Where: Various locations
What: The annual citywide cleanup takes place at 141 locations all over Austin and is followed by a volunteer party and environmental fair at Waterloo Park which includes free lunch, live music, kids' activities and door prizes. Go online to sign on to a project near you.
Urban Music Festival
When: April 9
Where: Auditorium Shores
What: The family-friendly event, which features Charlie Wilson, includes hip-hop and R&B artists and DJs mixing it up out by Lady Bird Lake.
Austin Jewish Film Festival
When: April 9-15
Where: Regal Arbor Cinema 8, 9828 Great Hills Trail; City Lights Theatre, 420 Wolf Ranch Parkway, Georgetown
What: The festival offers a cinematic examination of Jewish life and culture with independent works, both feature-length and shorts.
Old Settler's Music Festival
When: April 14-17
Where: Salt Lick BBQ Pavilion and Camp Ben McCulloch, Driftwood
What: Though it's a bit outside of town, the family-friendly festival's worth the drive. The event includes Grammy-winning roots and Americana artists (including acoustic jazz and blues, bluegrass as well as old-time local favorites), arts and crafts, camping and food. Ticket, wristband and pass prices vary; they can be purchased online or at the door. The festival benefits Campfire Boys and Girls and Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM).
Austin Reggae Festival
When: April 15-17
Where: Auditorium Shores, 950 W. Riverside Drive
What: A portion of the proceeds for the event -- which musical performances, food and arts and crafts -- will benefit the Capital Area Food Bank. $35 for a three-day pass; $12.50 for a day pass.
