April 2009 Events Calendar for Austin

April 3: Comedian Jerry Seinfeld performs stand-up comedy at the Bass Concert Hall. Shows at 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

April 4: Urban Music Festival. Features music from groups like The Sugar Hill Gang and Boyz II Men, in addition to food and crafts vendors. All day long at Auditorium Shores.

April 4: University of Texas’ 40 Acres Fest. Free and open to the public on the main malls of campus. There will be food, games, and music from bands such as Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! Events from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.

April 4: The Louisiana Swamp Thing and Crawfish Festival. There will be 6,000 pounds of Cajun seafood. Come enjoy crawfish, belly dancers, Zydeco music, and more. At 18th and Congress from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

April 4 and 5: 82nd annual Texas Relays. Come see track and field events from high school, college, university, and invitational participants. All day at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus.

April 4: Austin Lyric Opera’s first-ever beer and wine Smackdown. A local microbrewer and wine enthusiast will compete to see who is better at pairing their preferred beverage with foods provided by local restaurants. Event is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Ducloux Hall (901 Barton Springs Rd.).

April 5: The Grind action wakesports and music festival. At MLK and Congress from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Activities include a wakeboard rail jam, skateboard contest, vendors from the action sports industry, and live music.

April 5: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band perform live at the Frank Erwin Center at 7:30 p.m.

April 8: Gavin DeGraw performs at The Parish at 8 p.m.

April 10: International jazz concert featuring Ab Baars Trio & Ken Vandermark . At Austin's Historic Victory Grill (1104 E. 11th St.) at 8 p.m.

April 18: The Lovers, a six-piece psych rock band, are playing at 9:30 p.m. at Mesa Ranch South (2200 South I-35).

April 23: Chorus Austin presents the Austin Vocal Arts Ensemble, a 40-voice chamber group, performing “Madrigals and Motets.” Held at Hope Presbyterian Church (11512 Olson Drive) at 8 p.m.

April 24 and 25: Danial Llanes, performs a live multi-discipline music / dance / poetry presentation called Mokshya, Path to Enlightenment.. At Dougherty Cultural Arts Center. Two shows each day at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

April 25: Eeyore’s (46th) Birthday: All day in Pease Park. Enjoy live music, face painting, food, and fun.

April 25 and 26: World Massage Festival. Receive free compression massages, get answers about becoming a massage therapist, free demos, shop for natural and healthy products. Free and open to the public. From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the T-Bar-M Resort (Hwy 46, 7 mi west of I-35).

April 30: International jazz concert featuring Peter Brotzmann/Nasheet Waits/Eric Revis. At At Austin's Historic Victory Grill (1104 E. 11th St.) at 8 p.m.

April 30: Sugarland performs at the Frank Erwin Center with special guests Billy Currington and Eric Hutchinson. Show is at 7:30 p.m.

April 30: American Whiskey Festival at Opal Divine's Penn Field. Enjoy samples of bourbon and whiskey with hor d'oeuvres while learning all about the drinks. Tickets are $30.
