Known as the Loop 360 Bridge, the Austin 360 Bridge, the Lake Austin Bridge, and the Pennybacker Bridge, when it opened on December 3, 1982 it was only the second bridge of its kind. The rust colored steel bridge looks like a ladder that curves over the Colorado/Lake Austin without touching the water. The highway is suspended beneath.

In this view taken from atop a hill on the north shore of Lake Austin, the Pennybacker Bridge spans the lake, boaters enter Lake Austin from the public boat ramp on the south shore, and Loop 360 winds through the hills in the distance. It was a lovely Saturday in June and there are quite a few boats on the lake.
