Austin's third largest race and one of the top Half Marathons in the US according to Runner's World has been running since 1995. The 3M Half Marathon and Relay includes a 13.1 mile downhill half marathon through the streets of Austin, a 2-person half marathon relay (6.7 and 6.4 mile legs), and a 50 yard non-competitive fun run for kids.
2008 3M Half Marathon Race: Sunday, January 27, 2008 runners hit the pavement in an annual event that benefits the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas. The race begins at 7 am on Stonelake Boulevard near Baby A's and Embassy Suites (near Gateway Square and finishes at Waterloo Park. The 2008 course has fewer turns and longer straightaways than previous courses.
Registration: Register before January 15, 2008 for $50 (half-marathon), $90 (2-person relay), or $10 (Kids Fun Run). Between the 15th and 26th registration is $60/$100/$10. On race day registration is $90/$130/$10.
Categories: The Half-Marathon is 13.1 miles mostly downhill. There is also a 2-person relay and a non-competitive 50 yard Fun Run for kids 10 and younger. The Half-Marathon and Relay are part of the Austin Distance Challenge. There are 13 age categories as well as special divisions for Military/Police/Fire/EMS, Wheelchair, and Clydesdale/Filly (by weight and gender). Runners compete for cash prizes and awards in each division. Runners also receive t-shirts, gift bags, and refreshments at the finish line.
