Twin Liquors Marketplace, at a behemoth 15,000 square feet, opened in November of 2008 at 1000 E. 41st St. (in the Hancock Center). The store offers more than 7,000 different wines and thousands of varieties of spirits and promotes knowledge through classes, seminars, and other events. Despite its large size, the long-time family owned and operated business has kept it feeling warm and cozy. The Twin Liquors company already owns 55 stores in the Austin area, but the Marketplace is a step above the rest.
Why Twin Liquors Marketplace Stands Out
Twin Liquors Marketplace's incredible inventory of alcohol may seem overwhelming at first, but if you are feeling lost, just find a staff member; they are very knowledgeable and can help you select the best drink for you within your budget.
Twin Liquors Marketplace has several features that set it apart from other liquor stores. It has:
- A 20-foot-long, granite-topped wine-tasting bar with guest seating. Here, customers can attend educational seminars, taste wine and spirits on a daily basis, and learn about food and wine pairings
- A 50-seat classroom where the public can enjoy wine and spirits classes, which can also be turned into a dining room for the Marketplace’s wine-pairing dinners
- A Spanish-cedar-lined cigar humidor with nearly 1,000 cigars, making it one of Austin's largest cigar selections
- Climate-controlled wine cellars with floor-to-ceiling collections of vintage wines, in addition to an intimate private dining room in the cellar
More Than Just a Liquor Store
Twin Liquors Marketplace prides itself on being much more than just a retail outlet. "We've taken 70 years worth of experience in retailing and recognized that we wanted to provide a hub in which we could interact with customers," says David Jabour, president of Twin Liquors, in a press release. "The Marketplace is not just a place for us to sell wine and spirits; it will be a think tank where ingenuity and creativity run rampant, and it will be Austin's center for info about the wine and spirits industry. We're pulling together everything people love about Twin Liquors and providing an additional opportunity for some more fun, educational and interactive elements."
More About the Marketplace
The marketplace will be visited frequently by visiting chefs, wine experts, and even celebrities. In March of 2009, the Twin Liquors Marketplace was visited by Danny DeVito, who was promoting his new brand of limoncello.
This Marketplace was also built using many green-building products and practices, which will reduce the retailer’s environmental footprint. Another Twin Liquors Marketplace will open in the Hill Country Galleria in the summer of 2009.
